Karla Etienne began performing West African dance (Takadja, Juno Prize 1996 and Oumar N’Diaye), and afterwards, studied the dance technique developed by Zab Maboungou. After a few years, she joined the company’s performers as a performer (Mozongi, Lwáza, Montréal by Night). She took part in several workshops (vibratory chant with Maud Robart, body resonance with Yumiko Yoshioka, etc.) Karla has a Master’s degree in Environmental Science and has worked for several environmental organisations. In 2003, she decided to devote her energy to dance and became administrative assistant to the artistic direction of Zab Maboungou/Compagnie Danse Nyata Nyata. She also coordinates the Programme d’entraînement et de formation artistique et professionnel en danse africaine (PEFAPDA). Karla is the first graduate of the program, and has taught dance at Nyata Nyata studio for several years.
