Léna Blou

Degrees in Jazz Dance and Contemporary Dance – Contemporary Dance Teaching Diploma – Graduate of Paris IV-Sorbonne Nouvelle Contemporary Dance

As Jean-Claude Gallota said when they met in 2003, Lénablou is at once a “historian, messenger and new creator of dance”. Through her work as a dancer, choreographer and teacher, Lénablou syncretizes her mastery of gwo’ka, jazz and contemporary dance. Via her study of Guadeloupean traditional dance and through the prism of academic dance codes, she has delivered a resolutely contemporary technique based on solid roots: Techni’ka. Her language is universal and cosmopolitan. Everyone, from Maurice Béjart to Ariry Adriamoratsiresy, from Germaine Acogny to Alan Danielson, from Jean-Claude Gallota to James Carlès, has recognised the value of her work and drawn upon her Techni’ka approach. At present Lénablou is at the helm of a professional company, resource centre and dance school devoted to Karibbean techniques. She is communicating a new aesthetics, a new Karibbean state of mind, based on an indigenous concept: “bigidi”.
