Ferdinand Batantou, musician

A master drummer from the Congo, Ferdinand Batantou was formerly a percussionist with the National Ballet of Congo. He has performed in numerous festivals, notably in the Soviet Union, Germany, Nigeria, Libya, Cuba, China and across Europe. In France, where he resides, he is a recognized African dance percussionist working in the instructional milieu. He has worked with the University of Michigan, and has been a regular teacher since 1995 at the Congolese performing arts camps in Nevada, Hawaii and the U.S. In 2002, he conceived and performed a percussion concert with the renowned Doudou N’Diaye Rose of Senegal.
