At COMPAGNIE DANSE NYATA NYATA, our teaching is based on a global approach to rhythms. Each rhythm is regarded as a specific structure where in breath and movement are intrinsically linked. The first and foremost quality of the rhythms are their capacity to solicit the movement of the whole body while allowing isolation of individual body parts. In this respect, relaxation, as well as precise execution of the rhythmic patterns become essential. While exploring the various rhythm-cultures of Africa (particularly those from central-Africa), you will be guided to exercise your breathing, and develop your strength and suppleness. Through walking, stepping and jumping, you will learn fundamental principles and techniques of this art form - posture and alignment, the transfer of weight, movement in the multi-directional plane and the oral gesture. Movement and Choreography: Movement, analysis, space and musicality, movement and progression, creation of a rhythmic context.
